From Judy Maddock Hudson
Beginning in 1970, after Charlotte’s death, Anna Haynes invited all of us to Thanksgiving dinner, in addition to the people she had already invited. It was a big group of people. The very dim photo here, taken by Winthrop, isn’t very clear, but shows all 5 of Charlotte’s grandchildren. I don’t know who the boy and girl in the back are.

For the Hudson family, the tradition continued for many years, with mostly just Hudsons. We also came with Mette, and two Indonesians we were housing, whom we put into sleeping bags for the trip east in the VW bus. One year we skated on Bootman Pond; one year we stayed longer because of a big snowstorm in Pelham. Kate, because she had heard us talking about Winthrop, addressed him by his first name. His reaction was, “Children have always called me Mr. Haynes, but I find I like having a tiny three-year-old call me Winthrop!”
Our visits continued after Winthrop’s death, when Charlie became the master of the old Morse family home, where Anna lived until the end of her life. Mette joined us in 1984 and took many photos. We all pitched in with pie-baking and potato mashing and turkey roasting as well as the eventual clean-up.

In 1971 we were joined by Winthrop’s Harvard classmate Harold Allen and his wife. Harold had come with Anna, Winthrop and me in the summer of 1949 when we drove to Montana for a two-week trail ride in a wilderness area. He was a very fussy man, and I found him next to intolerable on the journey.

In 1972 Steve, Margot and three children were part of the crew. By 1982, everyone was nearly full grown.
